Wizard of Oz

I heard this story about a "munchkin" hanging himself of the set of the Wizard of Oz. Supposedly he didn't get to be part of the lolllipop gill & he snuck on the set to hang himself. It's supposed to be shown in the older versions of the movie in several scenes I think. Once before Dorothy goes on the Yellow Brick Road you can see his legs dangling over her head. Another time is when Dorothy, the scarecrow & the tinman are singing on the yellow brick road & you can see him swinging in the trees. I think there's another part when the witch sets a little house on fire. It's all on youtube.

Disney Conspiracy!

I'm so grateful to you for posting this one. The idea that there might be subliminal messages--that is, messages that we take in without our being conscious we are--in Disney would seem outrageous. After all, most of us grew up watching these films and they always seemed innocent and precious. It suggests that there is a conspiracy to corrupt children when they are most vulnerable. I doubt there is much evidence of the kind of manipulation this video suggests there is. This does indeed fall into the category of dubious conspiracy theories: explanations of the world involving the control of the masses by a small but all powerful group. We become receptive to these theories for many of the same reasons we believe urban legends, our deep anxiety about certain topics. For a long time, however, I've been highly critical of how Disney films explicitly (without any secret psychological trickery) advertise sexist and racist concepts and behaviors. In fact, I find some of these films to be so offensive to my sensibilities that I have refused to show them to my son; my little thumbsucker wasn't going to be exposed to that crap! The films I refused to show him included The Little Mermaid and The Jungle Book. Perhaps we will do an analysis of a Disney film in this class. What do you think of that?

We all need food to live but there are many urban legends about food that makes us cautious about it. Theres one urban legend that I heard before back in middle school that when a guy drinks moutain dew, his testicles shrink and the less chance he has to have babies. That's why guys choose to drink pepsi rather than mountain dew. But people say pepsi spreaded that rumor so guys wouldn't buy it. hmm..I'm sure alot of you heard about this urban legend before.

Finger Lickin' Goodness

I heard this urban legend when i was really little at my friends house. It was kind of mentioned in the expanding horizons section on urban legends. So there is a babysitter watching a kid and their dog. she keeps getting all these weird sounding phone calls and starts to freak out. She goes to the bed that the dog always chills under. The dog is apparently some good watch dog that licks your hand if everything is alright. She feels the lick and calms down. Then she goes into the kitchen or something and sees the dead dog with a note around its collar saying "people can lick hands to"

Attention grabber

Not many things grab my attention. One thing that does, and i think everyone else should pay attention to, is how the World Bank is keeping half of the worlds population (third world countries) oppressed. I think we should pay attention to this because nobody does and they can do whatever they want unchecked.

pee or not to pee .........

When I was little my parents signed me for the swimming class. During the first practice my swimming teacher told our group that we can't pee to the pool because water around us will turn red. We were all curious to try, but nobody did in case the teacher was serious. I am still wondering whether he was telling us the truth or it was just another urban legend;-)Have a fun Thursday everyone!!!!!!

Anyone heard of or been to the "haunted" Caroline's mansion in Hillsborough? It's actually refered to as Carolands Chateau and at one point was the second largest private residents in the U.S. Nobody lives in the mansion but sometimes it's open for charity benefits and fundraisers. "During its years of abandonment in the 1970s and 1980s, the grounds and structure were visited by many local high school students who regarded it as "their" haunted house. In 1985, David Allen Raley, a security guard, kidnapped, tortured, and sexually assaulted two teenage women after giving them a private tour of the mansion. (He later killed one woman off-site.)"

There is an urban myth that your parents tell you when you're a kid. that if you don't wait a hour after you eat to go swimming, that you will cramp up and possibly drown.

3 men and a ghost

so i was checking out some websites and i found out the classic movie three men and a baby was filmed in a haunted house and was actually said to have a ghost in one of the scene i think the scene is ted danson talking to his mom but suposedley there is a ghost of a little boy in the window and it turns out that the house the movie is filmed in actually had a little boy die in some say it was the spirit of the little boy in the window but this is just an urban legend turns out the moie was not filmed in a haunted house and that no little boy died there either though there was actually a figure in the window but it was just a cardboard cut out of ted danson but good story huh?

so i found out by watching more videos on youtube that the video i posted below was actually a joke. But on the bright side i did find something else that is fun to watch.

Pay Attention!

According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, attention is defined as the act or faculty of attending, especially directing the mind to an object. Some of the synonyms are awareness, consciousness, watchfulness, alertness, mindfulness, and heed. Attention can be given, taken, shared, selfish, stolen, good, and even bad. I give my attention to my spiritual self and well-being, physical appearance, religion, family, education, friends, work, and talents. Almost every one of those subjects in which I give attention to can also be shared and those that can be shared are sometimes stolen. Instances have occurred where I have made unwise choices to give my attention to a less important matter and that caused a different matter to have attention stolen from it. I will admit I like attention and that could be described as selfish. Unfortunately I smoke a lot and I know it is a negative thing to give my attention to. When a person gives attention to something or someone they are conscious of the choices that are made, even if they could be the wrong ones. People live and learn and then give their attention elsewhere. This is where responsibilities fall into place and people prioritize their schedules where attention is given to certain things for a specific amount of time. My schedule is very busy with being a full time student, having two part time jobs, Tahitian classes, practices, performances, keeping up good shape, starting my career as a vocal artist, creating a clothing line, spending time with my family, partying with my friends, and somehow manage to get some sleep. That’s just the beginning of my story and I’m taking myself to the top, so watch out and pay attention.

I heard this Urban Legend from a friends... friend cousins... neighbor!!!

To be a Marine, you have to brake a finger before graduating bootcamp. It can be any finger except your dominant index finger. This will give the right of passage. That's what made the Marine Corps the difference between all the other branches of service.

Years and years ago, I was fooled by this. When I actually went through bootcamp, there wasn't a day that passed that I didn't think about the day my finger was going to break. A week has passed, and nothing happened. As the weeks passed, it was finally time for graduation. I asked my colleague if the Drill Instructors were going to break our fingers for training. He laughed in my face and told me that they are not permitted to do this. A big relief. And that was that. Urban Legend - ZERO, Victor - ONE.

I'm not sure when in time i actually heard this, but after a year or two of being in the Corps, I was told that the "Mothers of America" made this up because they didn't want their 18 year old sons and daughters to be service members. Especially in a time when war is actually going on. Granted I still did the training... I was scared, but I'm glad I went through with it.

The attention of any individual is placed toward a specific obligation or for one’s own gratification. Therefore, one becomes oblivious to that fact that other aspects of life are present. An individual may be aware that they place more attention to a certain element of life, but neglect to prioritize these various elements for overall betterment. The individual places their attention toward comfort because comfort is the basis of what everyone aspires to achieve. Even though attention may be given to something that is not comfortable, does not mean that comfort is eliminated from sight but that focusing on this factor of life is only but a stepping stone for that pivotal transition.

Hey Everyone...this is Tony Cortese...Well I am just starting college this year...and I am really happy with the way things are going...its a completely different world out there..and I love it. It was a sigh of relief as I stepped through the main office at CSM because it made me feel like...wow...im finally done with High school...anyways...I hope to enjoy this class as the rest of them. Llifestyle!

Well, college is still new to me. From what I can see so far is that everyone is just doing this just because they need to, or it's the "thing" to do after highschool. I'm in the same position and their are certain personal issues that is telling me this IS what's best. Do I actually agree w/ this process? No!!! I've noticed that it isn't going to be easy. And that college isn't going to be like high school. It's going to be a way of life... a LIFESTYLE!!!

Attention

What has my attention is what is most important. The most important time is now because this is the only time you have control of. The most important person is whoever you are with because you never know whether you will see them again, and the most important thing to do is to do right by them, and for yourself. This I have completely paraphrased from Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy’s story the Three Questions.

My attention

There are a lot of things that go on in my life. I would consider myself to be a very busy person who is always doing something. It is difficult to focus all my attention on one thing with so much going on in my life. The biggest pie piece of my attention chart is sleeping. I try to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep a day so I could focus during my day. If I do not get my sleep I could become a grumpy person. The next biggest pie piece on my chart is school. School is very important to me and I want to do well in school so I could have a lot better chance to be successful in my life. I also put a lot of attention to school because my mom has made a lot of sacrifices in her life to put me in a good high school and get a good education. I do not want to let her down by not doing well in school and I really want to show her that all her sacrifices were worth it. The third biggest pie piece was work. I work part time at home depot pro and I usually work about twenty hours a week. This takes a lot of my attention but it is important because if I didn’t put my attention toward it then I would not have any spending money. My fourth biggest piece on my chart was my attention toward my family. I would like to focus more of my attention toward my family. Being close to my family is very important to me. Without them I would not be where I am today. I try my best to spend as much attention as I can toward my family. The next to pieces were a tie. These two pieces were sports and my friends. I have always played sports since I was little. Sports are a huge part of my life and have kept me from getting myself into trouble. Friends are also very important to me. Sometimes it is hard to focus my attention on them because I am always busy with something but I do try to put as much of my attention toward them as I can. The rest of the chart in order goes; driving, eating, music and TV.

What gets MY attention?!?!?!?!?

Tattoos get my attention because it's just something I'm generally interested in. For example, when I look at a person's tattoos I see something about them (most of the time). It's a way of expressing yourself in an art form even if you're not the physical artist. You give you're ideas to your artist and by working together you create something that was YOUR idea and it expresses you even if you didn't draw it out. A simple explanation of what you want will be enough for the artist to come up with something to draw up for you.

Therefore, I think that YOU, my fellow classmate/professor, should pay attention to tattoos because if you look close enough (metaphorically) to a person's tattoo it reflects that person in some way. Sometimes in order to understand this you must know a little more about them. In the end regardless of if they are your best friend or just an anonymous person walking down the hall, you will see the real meaning if you take a little time and give them your own attention.

What is attention? Attention can be what I want it to be. It can be demanded or given. Attention is a copy or our personalities, what we pay attention to describes our interests and desires, our likes and dislikes. Every single thing on this world wants our attention, good things and bad things. It is up to me and only me to decide what I want to give my attention to, this way describing who I am.

What grabs my attention are my family and friends. They receive most of my attention because without them i wouldn't become the person i am today. In addition, our society catches my attention too. The ever changing technology and styles.

currently what grabs my attention is that new life back to the states :] being born in the states but moved to HongKong when i was 6. so returning to the states for furthur studies is a tough challenge for me. the lifestyle, education system and people are different from what i used to have. Also being away from home and dear friends, though there's internet connection and instant messengers, its really hard to imagine life without them. without the love ones here to share the joys and sorrows.
so i think everyone should try imagining how studying abroad alone and being away from your love ones is like, giving attention on how life would be different from what you have now.

A couple things that get my attention are baseball and friends. I have been playing baseball since I was three. And hanging out with my friends is always fun. Last year my friends and I had to make a video for one of our classes about what we are going to be doing in 5 years. We did it about professional wrestling, like WWE, it was just a big joke. What is attention? Attention is the act or faculty of attending, especially by directing the mind to an object. Everyone gives their attention to something whether it being a person, place, idea or thing. Being humans, attention is one of the main actions that we both give and receive. Without out, I truly believe that we can’t function. The main thing that gets my attention more than anything is my boyfriend Jerimy Anicete. Although I give him the most attention, I feel that my education deserves more. I would borrow more time from boyfriend so I can contribute more attention to my education.

What grabs my attention? Artwork. Artists out there always place a hidden meaning behind their work, and I still can't figure out what they try to say. Dance also grabs my attention. I do hip-hop with Reincarnation Performance Group (along with other styles), and I try to show my attitude behind that "rocker chick" clothing that I wear every day. Music also Grabs my attention. I listen to anything from different countries. I feel that restricting myself to the music offered in America isn't enough. Open up your tastes for something new, you may never know if you will like it.

There are many things that catch my attention. Things that inspire me to things that are happening in our society. Things that are out of the ordinary in a good or a bad way. People that walk down the street to people that sit on the side of the street. When i notice them i wonder what they've been doing in their lives to cause them to be walking down this street or sitting on the side of the street begging for money. Unique plants that grow a certain way to cute cartoon characters that just reminds me of a happy jolly land. To sum it all up everything catches my attention someway and somehow , because if nothing caught my attention i would probably be a walking zombie that had no destination in mind or anything.

the sound of the breeze and fog mixed in, in the early morning. the buzz and ring of my never-ending alarm. lulu's breathe so heavy and firm as she slowly stretches out to reach the warmth of my arms. she slowly sniffs my ear, hair, and sneezes. like everyday... that's my morning wake-up call. thirty minutes to get ready is what the clock calls out for. rushing steadily to my car, driving safely as can be so i won't get another ticket, and getting to where i need to be as early so it always brings a smile to my managers face. one by one customers storming in to pick out what they can wear to relax their feet. each customer has different rants and raves about problems with arch, heel spur, ankle pain, pronating or supinating. i give the knowledge that i know and help them make honest decisions. alot to work with but by the end of two weeks my paystub is all worth the exercise of running back and forth- stockroom to customers and customers to stockroom. sometimes there may be complaints, dissatisfaction with certain types of purchases, and or just undecided on what they want can ruin our (sales associates) goals for the day, week, month or year. i'm a hard worker, strong learner and go for what i need for the future. you should guess what i do now as my job because my job is what makes me attentive. the people i work with help me, help me become a stronger person, and increases my patience with people. it's a great learning experience and i happen to love what i do- for now. this job seeks my attention and so i pay attention. paying attention is different from concentrating- that is a different story, so i will learn even more and more for what the future brings me.

My education

trying to do good in school is my main concern. i havnt been to a real school in 2 years, so its something different for me to adjust to. im trying to do some homework but its hard for me to concentrate. school is catching my attention more than anything at the moment.

What grab’s my attention? Look outside!! I feel like our generation doesn’t realize the beauty that this world has to offer. The other day I was up by skyline (highway 35) and saw one of the most amazing views of the bay area I have ever seen. So people get out there and enjoy the daylight… screw the television… =]

What catches my attention..

What catches my eye RIGHT NOW is how broken our english is online. It's funny how this is an English class assignment/blog, but we are not using the correct grammar, punctuation, capitalizing, etc... Instant messenging is breaking down the English language and chatting online is giving me Cs on my essays!!! I should really stop chatting and emailing and my food is getting cold right now..as I am typing..maybe it's not the broken English that catches my attention, but my desire to chat online..who knows..

what is getting my attention these days is how unhealthy our society has become. everywhere you look, its fast food and junk food all over the place. even at school, i've noticed the choices for food are disgusting. do you really want to put something so unnatural into your bodies?

What Catches My Attention?!

My classes catch my attention because since it's the beginning of the semester I feel that it's even more important to pay attention. I think others should pay attention to these because since were in college it's more important to not waste so much time and you don't always have someone helping you out, mainly now it's all on you.
