clones

It would be a positive medical advance that would bring relief to many different diseases that we would not be able to treat before, but is it right? Is it ethical to create life and destroy it for another person's use? Are we at a point in society where we deserve that kind of responsibilty? I really don't think so. Good idea but its just not right

Human Cloning Positive Addition to Society

Dear Class,
Human Cloning is a very controversial issue and different people have different opinions. Human Cloning is a positive form of scientific research to advance technological development. For example, Human Cloning allows up to advance in many forms. Not only did we get the advantage to study different cloning processes and improve scientific research, but it makes it a lot easier in today’s society. Regulated cloning would extremely decrease the population’s death rate by providing organs for people. We would not have to worry about organ donors. This would put less pressure on hospitals and families. Imagine, if a person really close to you was in desperate need of a heart transplant and there was no chance of getting the organ, your heart would be crushed because you have that immense worry that you are going to loose them. But If we allow cloning, that worry is eliminated from your mind. You know your loved one is going to survive because you know there is an organ guaranteed. This eliminates stress from everyone. In Conclusion, cloning is a positive activity to our society because we all benefit from it.

The Positive Side of Human Cloning

Dear Class,

Human cloning should be used for one thing: medicine. By allowing and regulating cloning through restrictions the world would be better off. It would alleviate the stress on hospitals by providing a whole new field of research and not to mention decrease the death rate from the lack of organ donations. Through restrictions and laws, people would not be able to abuse the ability to try and live forever.

Thanks for reading.

Dear Class, Cloning ftw?

Dear Class of 9:10 MTWR

What i can say of cloning that is good is that if we do get into some sort of car accident and we end up needing, i dont know a spleen or something that would probably pretty beneficial to us. Or if the one you love needs a kindney transplant, it would be nice if they could get that kidney transplant so you can be with them once again. As for on the science side i suppose it would give us a pretty stong hand to start playing God and start doing experiments on "clones" instead of humans.

Now for the side i truly beleive in. If we do get into some sort of car accident and there is no way for us to get a spleen. Because its not in "stock" then i beleive that person should die...If your loved one needs that kidney that just wont come because your too far down that waitng list then we should be there with them until the end and learn how to let go..beleive me when i said this because ive had experience with this in real life, sadly ive had this happen on more than one occasion. This is part of growing up and fullfilling our quest of life. We shouldnt keep on trying to run away. We should accept it and try our best to move on i know how hard it is .

Students Moral Obligation to cheating.

If you catch another student cheating, i dont beleive you should judge them in any way. After all everyone who has ever been and ever will be, has in fact cheated in one way or another. Its in the human instinct to do whatever it takes to persavere. And anyone who condems another for using unsatisfactory methods in their mind to get the job done is a hypocrit and a fool =). It may be ethically wrong in most of our minds but it still stands that it is ok as long as the end result is good. After all the ends justify the means, do they not? Think about it, even though great atrocities occur everyday. They are sometimes necassary atrocities. At least in the minds of the politicians that control our world.

Would cloning be for good or bad??

It's kind of hard to explain if human cloning would be good or bad for our society. It would be good, so we could test all different diseases and find more problems and cures. It wouldn't be good because we already have a lot of people in the world, and not everything we have is available to each person. So, if we get more people in our society the original people would get less of what they already have.

Human Cloning

Dear class,

In support of human cloning, I would say that we should only use it for the medical needs of people with diseases.  It makes life easier for people who are looking for an organ donor when they're on the brink of death.  (But then again, that would be cheating death, wouldn't it?)  I think that the people who would make use of this the most would be children.  Children are the ones that don't deserve an early death because of the fact that there weren't enough organ donations out there.  They're the ones that should have an extension to their life since they haven't been out in the world enough to know what life is really like.  Cloning is one thing that should be considered when it comes to medical needs, not the selfishness of an adult who wants to gain immortality by replacing their own organs over and over again.

umm....its my birthday! :)

Dear Class,
i support human cloning for all the benefits it would bring to society! if we had human cloning we wouldn't have to worry about organ donations because we could clone a human and always have organs on hand. this would become very useful in saving lives. human cloning would also provided scientists subjects to do research on. using real live humans could do great things for health science and could, in the future, save many lives. i believe that human cloning would be a positive thing in order to save lives and better the health of humans today! :)

Human Cloning: Disagreed and Agreed.

My teacher and fellow students,

The human body is made of different organs which make each system function in certain ways. To a person, their body is what describes their specific feature whether they have different skin color, hair, shape or size or how people feel about themselves, Human cloning shouldn’t be done because the body's identity represents them as a person. A human being was brought into life for a reason, just like how “everything happens for a reason”. Even through the toughest and easiest time, everyone has that one chance to live life the way they make it; the cloning of a Human is like bringing the dead back to life and they should be left alone because it was their time to go. Also, the clone would need to live, breathe, somehow develop feelings and go through memories like any other person. So you wouldn't want to take their lives away just so you can survive, would you?

On the other hand, Human cloning can be supportive because of random situations that occur such as unexpected deaths. If you were in a life and death situation and you needed a specific organ to replace what you've lost then that would be helpful. Helpful in a way where you can still live on living your happy life. Many people have certain roles in life especially when it comes with family, they are there for one another to support and help one another achieve their true meaning of life. Whether one can value the true meaning of life, there will always be one true identity of who they really are. So is the clone just a mirror image? Hmmm....

Moral Obligation For Cheating

www.theonion.com/content/node/52060

What moral obligation does a student have if he or she witnesses cheating? Write a PIE paragraph in response.

A students moral obligation when another student is cheating is that he or she is suppose to tell the teacher because it wouldn't be fair for the other students who actually took the time to study and ask for help to pass the test. For example, Joe took a week to study. He was very determined and tried his hardest everynight to understand the subject. Joe even made different illustrations and outlines to make it stick to his brain. Jane didn't really feel like studying or she had limited resources, but she could've asked another student for help like Joe and they could've studied together. So instead Jane goes out with her friends because she didn't want to face the tention of studying and being frustrated. The next day, the test comes and obviously it will haunt Jane since she doesn't know any of the material that is questioned to her. Joe knows most of the content so he proceeds. Jane starts to look at Joes papers and Joe tries to hide it. Should Joe tell the teacher? Of course he should but will most students tell? Most likely in my opinion no... because sometimes the "good" students who studied will feel bad at times because "bad" students might not have money to buy the materials to study or whatever that reason is. No matter what, I think you should work out your studying session with a classmate. In the long run, it will haunt you and won't feel accomplishment, you'll just see flashbacks of cheating to just "get through" graduation or that serious major.

class

human cloning is fine because it solves a lot of problems. it makes people lives easier, puts less pressure on hospitals. i can understand why people say that it is unethical but thats only one side of it. if we go into the details of what its capable of then most of us will believe its okay to clone. in the future we will need these new things to take care of the problems that we'll face so therefore human cloning is ok.

Cloning

Dear Class,
Human cloning will allow major advances in health and science to be discovered. We would have the power to replace body parts and prolong the life of soliders wounded in war or for people who were in some sort of accident. Cloning would open the door to a healthier society almost free of most of the diseases present today. Deaths due to a faliure of an organ would be unheard of and scientists would most likely understand the causes of most illness and dieseases in humans today. In all, cloning would allow our society to live longer healthier lives.

Cheating

If a student were to witness another student cheating they should keep to themselves and let the people directly involved handle the situation. For instance, if I were to witness someone cheating off another persons test, I would not do anything about it; it is the students involved and the teacher’s problem. We as students respect each other and each others decisions but, if someone were to tell on someone that was cheating the class would basically shun that person all together causing more trouble in the classroom than needed.

cloning

Dear Class,

Cloning can advance our study of life to a greater level. Imagine a world where cloning can help save lives of important researchers and people. Researchers that can further their research in finding cures for epidemic diseases and outbreaks all over the world. People wouldn't have to worry about dieing just because there isnt a cure anymore because our researchers can live longer and reach their goals. Cloning human life can mean that we won't have to say goodbye to our loved ones. We won't have to go through a grieving process when someone close to us is lost. Cloning can open our horizons even further. We can reach all corners of the universe by cloning, but with such great power may come great consequences. Cloning isn't technically ethical, but many may use its advantages to prove that point correct. Many will take over the power of being "godly" and use their power to create madness. So overall, cloning may be great to further our studies in research, but it must be used properly so its power will not be abused.

No to Human Cloning

Dear Class,

To me Human cloning is unethical and it is inhumane. I think god should be the only one creating humans. people shouldn't be messing around trying to make a copy humans. they should just leave it up to god to make humans. last night i was watching a movie called "The 6th Day" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was about him returning home to a clone of him self with his family, before he could find the truth a group of people try to assassinate him. I think that this is a pretty scary thing that one day you come home only to find a clone that took your place and now theres a group of people trying to hunt you down before you start spreading the word that the group of people are cloning people. i would never want to be replaced by a clone. if i died, and there was cloning, family and/or friend would just go clone another one of me, and for get about me because theres a new me. when i die i wouldn't want anther me, i want to be remembered not for gotten and replaced. i think human cloning should never be legal, and it should be completely shut down, because its in humane and unethical.

If you aint cheatting u aint tryin

Now cheating is not a ethical or right thing is anyway but im pretty sure almost everyone has done it in some form of way. (That doesnt make it right but it makes me feel better to say that). But to snitch smeone else out for cheating is not necessary. The person cheating is already hurting themselves and its not your responsibility as a student to be conserned with athoer actions. Cheating causes you to not learn and develope a habit or relying on others to do your own work. why would u go to school to not learn anything it doesnt make sense.

clones are no good

Cloning is a very good thing for science but not a good thing for mankind. The creation of life in my eyes can only be done by one person and that is god. When humans try to play god no good can come from it because as humans we are prone to messing things up. Im shure clonning would start out as a good thing but there are s very corrupt people who could hake big problems out of it. Just because you are creating life through clonning doesnt mean it is any less important than anyone elses life. So why do we feel it is right to create life and kill it so someone else can live? God decides that stuff not us, and i think it should stay that way.PEACE!

Cloning

Dear English Class.
I think cloning is absolutely ethical. I mean if it is used to save lives i think it is alright for someone to be clone for a body part or something. That way hospitals would have the trouble of having to find the right organ that matches the blood type and so on. Human anatomy is definitely a complicated thing. If cloning was practiced, it would definitely be very simple for hospitals to gut out the clone and try to preserve each organ, blood and whatever other things they need. It would not be exactly killing a human being for the person is cloned and not given birth to by a woman. So overall I believe it is ok to clone.

attack of the clones

In my opinion I think cloning should be practiced and researched a lot by scientists because it would be a miracle if one could do such things. This is good and bad in some ways. Think of what or how cloning would be used for if it got into the wrongs hangs. That could easily go wrong and it could be used for to terrorize mankind. But it would also be good for the medical industry. Lets say if someone needed a transplant but no one in the world has the same heard or body part, but if we had cloning we could take a new healthy part and clone it so it could be used in a transplant. There are really a good and a bad for this topic.

CLONin'

Dear ENG 848,

Human cloning should NOT be tolerated and should be banned. Who wouldn't want to have a second chance at life and have an "extra" just chillin' in your own closet? I know this would make me feel invincible and take my life into my own hands, just knowing if the worst case scenario happens, DEATH, I WILL live once again. But it shouldn't be like that. Let's embrace what we have and what we hold dear the first time, so the human race does NOT have to resort to human cloning for any type of reason.
If the government approves cloning, it's only a matter of time before it becomes perfected and abused. Not to mention these clones still need clothes on their back, a place to live, and food in their mouth. Who is going to pay for all of this? It's just a series of events that is going to bite us in the ass as tax payers.

Human cloning?

Dear class,
Human cloning to me wouldn't be right. I feel that it cant be trusted. Its true it would be nice to have a "backup" organ but how would we know if it would work? i think its way to risky to put something like that into your body because it could have very deadly side affects. What if your clone heart suddenly stops working? i just feel like its way to complicated to have to clone something and then experiment on it. It would take lots and lots of time and money. Humans have been living without cloning since forever. we should just keep it that way. We shouldn't waste our time and money on cloning. We have more important things to use it on. Like research to find a cure for AIDS,HIV, and Cancer etc.

Wouldn't it be nice?

Hey, imagine if your mother had a bad heart. But with the miracle of cloning, scientists could clone her a brand new one. No waiting list for heart transplants, no waiting to see if the organ will be rejected by the body. If cloning can be done, why not have a organ cloned for your body so you can live longer? With proper rules and regulations, cloning can be the biggest breakthrough for medicine ever!

ANOTHER ME?

Dear Class,

How would you feel if there was another you? (if your not already a twin) Wouldn't it be cool? I always wished I had a twin. Human cloning is something I would support only if it's needed for people who need organ transplants and such. If everyone clones oneself, then our population would double. That's a lot of people. I would say human cloning shouldn't be used for our entertainment, but to help save other people's lives. It's really hard to find an organ doner these days; no one would just disembowel their organs and give them away. Would you? But human cloning might also help us be one step closer to finding other solutions to cure diseases. It may help us understand our human race more. ANYTHINGS POSSIBLE right?

Roxanne

Human Cloning.

Human cloning is the worst thing to pursue. My point of view would be based on the idea of having to see mirror images of myself, kind of interrupting my uniqueness in society. I think some psychological effects come into play when you see a replica of yourself. Also, noting that cloning is successful but it has sideffects as well. The sideffects must be taken into account, because if cloning is at first successful the recreation of the human is "alive". Therefore, if the sideffects end up killing or some unfortunate event occurs the scientists must take complete responsibilities for conducting such experiments. This brings to light the question of murder. Is murder justifiable through human experimentation? it is not, but that is what cloning is doing in an indirect way. We are give the impression that it is for a greater good, but in reality how much sacrifice must be made in the name of science. We have seen disasterous events in the past in the name of science such as the bombings of hiroshima and nagasaki with the advancement in nuclear weaponry. Even though, cloning may not be as gruesome and merciless ass nuclear "revenge" they have same concept. All this culminates into the question do the ends justify the means? well in this case I will have to strongly say that the end does not justify the means.

You may say, that human bodies are dead already right? well, the extraction of body parts, organs, etc. is inhumane even if the body is disposed. To disect someone is to show disrespect for our human race. Scientists may defend this by saying it is in the name of this so-called science but that does not justify the right to degrade a human being. A human being, even though dead still has a name, a past, and that has contributed to society. To deprive a person of thier name is saying that they are below human and we are not equal as individuals in society. Furthermore, if this is the case and human honor diminishes I say do to to me what you have done to my fellow brothers and sisters because in my eyes we are equal and no one should be subjected to dishonor in that way.

Thats why it is vital to our society to recognize its faults and fight for our rights. In the end we should have a decision. A decision to be dishonored or honored. In my opinion, adopting dishonor is completely rediculous because you are basically blinded by the fact that your death will be vital in the progression of mankind. You'll be given the false impression of a martyr of which you are not. Do not be blinded by the dream of glory for it will only lead to nothingness and the honor which you have acheived throughout your lifetime will be disgraced.

Human Cloning

Dear Class,
Human cloning has been a major debate within our society in this generation. Times have been changing drastically and technology and science has improved our lives. Human cloning is a new science and with our technology we may be able to develop a whole new lifestyle for us if not for others. There have been countless of men, women, children, that have lived a life of pure agony because of a failure of a human organ, but with human cloning, these people can receive organs of similar characteristics and fulfill out their life without any handicaps. Through human cloning many people lives will be saved, and to not approve of this, is basically stating the death for those in need of human organs.

Our Morals!

Students basically have the moral obligation to tell or keep it to themselves. It's kind of hard to explain because telling would seem right but to me it seems like invasion of privacy because we are looking at them cheating?! But if we don't say anything, they will do good and possibly get somewhere like a doctor then not know what they are doing. So, you might just have to ask yourself the question if you would tell someone if another person is cheating? Just looking at the statistics cheating is unethical so it would be wrong basically either way you go.

moral obligation??

I think that a students moral obligation depends on the student. For me, if i witnessed someone cheating I would probably not say anything because it is none of my business. Sure, its unfair to me that they get their own help, but that's their mistake/problem. If they made a big deal about the fact that they cheated and made sure that the whole class knew that they got a good grade, I would probably say something then because it's one thing if you do it and it's done, but it's another thing if you do it and then flaunt about it after.

Cloning is a good idea

Dear class,
I believe cloning can be a good idea if handled in the right way. It could do a lot more good than it can bad. If we had the ablility to clone we would be able to save the lives of thousands who needed a new organ. Think of this, what if one of your best friends or closest family members despartely needed a new heart and the only way they would be able to survive is if they immediately had a heart transplant. If we have cloning they survive and without out cloning you just lost a close one who you could have saved. Would you mind cloning in this case? It is not like these clones are not being put to good use, we will be using them to save lives. If handled in the rigth way human cloning can save the lives of many people, maybe someone close to you.

Cheating

There might be a sense of obligation to report someone when you witness them cheating, but if i were to witness it i would feel that sense of obligation, but I wouldn't feel the need to "do the right thing." I don't see it as part of my business to "snitch" on someone if i see them cheating, because they might be caught by the teacher when grades come back around. Also, in reality they are not benifiting themselves with what they are doing. Once they continue to cheat, the cheater will continue to think it is something they can always do and get away with, but in reality they are only "cutting corners." Sooner or later they will face some sort of consequence and will know that they should not have cheated. If i did ever told on someone that was cheating, i wouldn't really be helping them too much. Sometimes they might just try to cheat again, but with a different approach. Cheaters are only helping themselves. So why should I feel need to help them come to senses that cheating is wrong, when they should know already?

cheating

would i snitch on someone if i saw them cheating naa because i dont snitch first of all, and it's simly none of my business. if you are cheating then the only person that you are hurting is yourself and that's it.

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

What a cheater..

What would I do if I witnessed cheating?  In my case, nothing.  It's the teacher that should be paying more attention to their students who are most likely going to cheat.  It's none of my business to deal with the cheater, anyway.  However, if I saw that some idiot was looking off of my paper, I would for sure report them because they're using my knowledge without my permission.  I could care less if a person had notes written on their arms, or had a small cheat sheet hidden between their legs, but if they steal my answers, I will feel insulted and report them.  But then again, would the instructor believe your word over the cheater's?

Cheating !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if i caught someone cheating would i snitch or not? The answer is HELL NO! First off thats not my style, i dont snitch. Secondly i wouldn't snitch on them simply because its none of my business and i have no right to put someone under the spotlight and to make them face the consequences. Like they say your only cheating yourself. In addition, isn't not snitching part of the man code?

$$$$

CHEAAAATERRR!

If I caught someone cheating, I wouldn't tell on them. That's their guilt they should feel. It's also not fair, especially if they got a good grade. Other people work really hard to get good grades, and just for someone to cheat of them is unfair. For example, if a student in that class is really smart, gets good grades, and seems to have a bad day before a test, then cheats, then he/she would feel horrible. On the other hand, where a student gets bad grades, not stupid, but lazy, then cheats, then he/she would be used to cheating and wouldn't feel as much guilt as the other student. Everyone has cheated in their lives, good or bad, its still cheating.

cheatssss

Cheating is probably really common these days I think. If I had seen someone cheating and gets away with an A, I would be pretty mad. I would feel this way because that person cheating has to struggle for a good grade and resort to cheating. But also it would make me feel good that I don't need to cheat to get a good grade. I would definitely not snitch to the teacher because thats just plain stupid. It's his life I could care less i would rather care for myself rather than going up to the teacher after class and say I saw someone cheating. But to some others people would probably snitch I'm not trying to say in College, but i think people would snitch in middle school. Snitching is what middle schoolers do. Then again, its up to whomever decisions is to do something or not.

Cheat'n

Well obviously the best thing to do for a morally up right student is to snitch out the kid that is cheating, but that kind of junk never happens. Because almost everybody cheats, it has become like a part of every ones life. It is our nature to cheat because it is the easy way out for all that stress that we build up. Personally, if I saw someone cheat I just wouldn't care, because in the long wrong, cheating will just get screwed up. So basically cheating is something I don't really think about since its something that everyone does.

Freaking Cheaters

What would happen if I was in the position of catching someone cheating as a student? I would just look away and mind my own business. The person that's doing the cheating knows what they've done. Of course, they're not going to feel bad for doing it, since all students want are good grades. If I was to tell on someone for cheating, it would definitely be very awkard to be in my shoes. People are not going to look at you the same way. Somehow, you're going to know as the snitch and you people wouldn't see you as a very trustworthy person. That is how school society works now a days. I would definitely choose a friend over a foe anyday.

Cheatinggggggg

I wouldn't tell at all if i see someone cheating. Its none of my business and it's something that most people experienced doing it before. I know this isn't right but everyone has their own reason doing it. Including myself, i've cheated quite a few times, and i absolutely know how getting away and being caught feels like. No one knows better how cheating feels like but yourself. People who cheats also know the consequences of it, if they care enough for their grades, they wouldn't cheat. Besides, i think snitching on someone is a very very nasty behaviour. You're like backstabbing someone just because for your own benefits......

Monday, October 29, 2007

CHEATING!

What would i do if i saw someone cheating? would i snitch on them? Well I know for sure i wouldn't because i feel like its not my responsibility. Its not my job to snitch on someone for cheating. I feel like its a code that us students cannot break. I think if they wanna cheat let them because its only gonna mess up there future. People who cheat aren't going to succeed in life and if they do, there just lucky. I myself think that cheating is pointless because once you start you might get hooked. You'll rely on cheating all your life. People choose there own path and its their choice. Why get involved in something you don't have to. PLUS, SNITCHES GET STITCHES.

CHEATTTTTAAAHHHS!

i wouldn't tell on someone if i found out that they were cheating. i wouldn't tell anyone because 1)it doesn't effect me so why would i care enough to go out of way and use my energy to tell on that person? just to get them in trouble? and 2) krama is a b*%&h!!!

cheating

I dont think I would tell on someone who is cheating. Basically its not my business and I am not going to worry about it. If someone feels like cheating that is their business and its for them to worry about. I dont think that cheating is right, but honestly who needs to worry about what the person next to you is doing. Even if they get a better grade then you, what does it matter. If you studied and got a decent grade then thats all you need to worry about. It will catch up to that person at some point so its all good.

cheaters

I wouldn't snitch on someone for cheating. First off, it doesn't concern me if someone is cheating on their behalf. If it's not my duty to do so, then I won't. Second, I don't think it's that big of a deal to cheat. I've seen & know many people cheat & that's their decision. It's not like it's not normal to see someone pull out a cheat sheet or peek over their shoulder to see their neighbor's paper druing a test. It's their choice if they want to take the easy way out & can get away with it, then it really shouldn't be anyone else's business.

cheating

If i were to see another student cheating i would not snitch on him/her and tell my teacher. I do not believe it is the students' responsiblity to report if other students are cheating. That is the repsonsiblity of the teacher. I know it is not the right thing to do to cheat but lets be honest most students are not going to rat on others that cheat because i gaurantee they have cheated on something during their life. That is just the way it is. Cheating happens all the time. If a student chooses to cheat on a test then they are accepting the risk of the consequences if they get, then let them be. Students have busy lives and sometimes dont have the time they need to study, so they result to the last result and cheat. If they dont get caught then so be it.

Let's All Cheat!!!

In a perfect world, everyone would tell on the individual that cheats. But that's not the case. I wouldn't snitch on the person that is cheating because if I can see that person cheating and the instructor can't see that person cheating, it can only mean one of two things. One, the instructor is clueless of his surroundings and not paying attention to his students, or two, the individual is that good; since he/she is that good, that person deserves to get away with it. Everyone has their own individual way of cheating and if it works, then I say keep doing it until you get caught, apparently it is working if you haven't gotten caught yet, and if you have been snitched on or got caught by a teacher and your still cheating, then there is something wrong with your head.

Cheaters

I would not turn the student in if i caught them cheating. I am not the police and it is not my job to go around telling people how to live their lives. It is not another students moral responsibility to turn in someone else if they are cheating. It all depends on your morals as well. If you are cheating too, then how can you morally say that the cheater is wrong? In my life, I've learned that results are everything, how you get from point A to point B is up to you.

Wild Fire Sweeps across southern California

I just read an article from the yahoo news and a massive wild fire has swept through southern CA two hundred and fifty thousand people were promted to evacuate 10 were treated for mmajor burn wounds and 1 was killed near the mexican border. They are calling this the " witch fire" this catches my attention because it tells us in the bay area of problems elsewhere in our state and shows us the true danger of fire.

Theres never a new fashion but its old

One should eat to live not live to eat said the great Benjamin Franklin. This brings up a very important fact about ourAmerican society today. We are FAT people just love to eat and fast food companies and soda companies are everywhere. These industries spend milions of dollars to even billions in advertising a year! Thats more than most countries make in a year. So is it really americas falt for being fat? yes it is, evn though there is food available everywhere people still can eat just dont eat as much. Its gotten to a point where it seems that society worships food making fast food joints there place of worship they visit multiple times a day.

Fast food guilt

If i were to ever work at some fast food place i would have to think long and hard about the consequences. First off you would have to think about yourself. If you were to work at a fast food rrestaurant or even try calling it that you would be around grease and smoke all day long not to mention ou would have to deal with the fact that you would most likely be seeing out of shape customers your whole tme there and everytime you handed them a meal you would no that you were killing that person a little more. So i guess what im trying to say is that i wuold not be able to handle killing a person whether its at gun point or at Big Mac point.

San Francisco home to the nations first SAFE INJECTION site for addicts?

With one out of every seven emergency calls being related to drug overdose and with 11,000 - 15,00 drug abusers in San Francisco, the city’s officials have purposed a plan to eliminate deaths related to drugs. Purposed is a safe injection site where users can shoot up an array of drugs such as, heroine, cocaine, and methamphetamines, while being simultaneously watched and observed by a trained nursing staff. This staff would not provide help during the process nor provide the drug itself but would make sure that the user would be out of harms way. Supposedly, Vancouver has already set up a safe injection site that has served about 8,000 registered users over the past four years and there is still yet to be a death on the premises. Other studies have shown that this safe site has lead to the decrease in sharing needles, abandoned needles, and drug related crime.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,303425,00.html

When I first saw this article, I couldn’t believe that San Francisco’s city officials would actually consider giving drug abusers a place to shoot up or get high. If anything, the city should use the money to provide more options of rehabilitation to the homeless not more options to use the drugs. But, after reading the article, I guess it would be better if they “used” in a supervised facility where they could receive immediate medical attention if needed.

"Research Shows Drinking Alcohol Increases Breast Cancer Risk"

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/09/27/MN1ESEOND.DTL&type=science

This article is about a study that took place at Kaiser in Oakland, showing that drinking alcoholic beverages, all types, can increase a woman's odds of developing breast cancer. Drinking about 3 alcoholic beverages a day can increase one's odds about 30% and just drinking one alcoholic beverage a day can increase one's odds about 10%. Although there have been many studies on alcohol's impact on breast cancer, this one proved what others were looking for; that ALL drinks with alcohol increase women's odds of developing breast cancer. I thought this article was interesting, since I'm a girl and that all women, including me, are at risk whether or not they drink alcoholic beverages. I also found it interesting because in the article, it says that the Bay Area has the most women with breast cancer than the rest of the nation.

"Throughput"

Schlosser's essay made me realize that teens working in the fast food industry are basically being controlled like robots by the restaurant itself. I mean every job has its set of rules and regulations but I think fast food has made it so easy that the employee just has to follow the step by step procedure without ever using their brain, which is one of the main reasons why I could never work at a fast food restaurant. Number one, I couldn’t stand having one job and having to do it repeatedly throughout the day, and number two, I hate fast food; it’s a sorry excuse for a meal if you ask me.

49ers versus Great America. Choose now or forever hold your FUN.

http://www.insidebayarea.com/argus/oped/ci_7191573

49ers and Cedar Fair, the owners of Great America, are saying "this town ain't big enough for the both of us."

The 49ers want to build an $854 million stadium in Santa Clara's entertainment district by 2012. Great America's 56-acre parking lot has to become part of the stadium. It's like saying the city of San Francisco want's to build a park on your lot where your house is. Do you think that's fair? Great America is among the leaders of entertainment in Northern California, one of the few spots where everyone comes to visit to have fun, and Santa Clara wants to build a football stadium. I mean we all love the 49ers and entertainment, but we all want to have fun, too.

I found this interesting because I believe that there won't be any other places like Great America. So we would have to drive all the way down south to fine great gigantic rides to fullfill our fun measures? Marin World can't even top Great America's great rollercoasters so that's a different story. I think it's unfair to everyone because 49ers is all about entertaining most elderly people. How about the bored kids? We want to have a place where we can basically enjoy ourselves not be at a stadium just watching football.

Homeless man identified as park knifing victim - third in 13 months

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/10/18/BAM8SSCH7.DTL&feed=rss.bayarea

This artical was about a homeless man who was murdered by somebody that enjoys killing homeless people just out side the park. The homeless man was stabbed in the face and neck multiple times. Investigators are trying to find out if this incident was related to 2 other victims earlier. Brian Austin was murderd early Tuesday around 2:30am. People said that they heard screams and called the cops. Matthew lister who was murderd in Shakespeare Garden in the eastern part of the park in September 8, 2006. So far nobody has been arrested. Inspector Mike Johnson said, "We are certainly aware of the fact that there are similarities." I found this artical interesting because its was surprising that somebody is walking around Golden Gate Park killing homeless people. I didn't know that there were multiple killings in the area.

Museum cancels race row scientist

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/7050020.stm

I found this article on the
BBC News web and after reading it, I felt angry and confused .I would never thought that a person who has the PhD in front of his last name can say such a racist thesis about people of color. Dr James Watson stated in his latest book, after winning a Nobel Prize for his part in discovering the structure of DNA, that black people are less intelligent, have less potential, and are hard to deal with at work field. I would never say that intelligence may be at any way linked to the skin color. I met many white people who were not processing information well, were simply stupid, or acted like mentally retarded. I cannot believe that he said it and expected anybody to agree. I am disgust with this doctor and I am very glad that The British Science Museum cancelled his appearance, explaining that his argument is beyond the point of acceptable debate.

MAN ACCUSED OF VIDEOTAPING THE SEXUAL ASSULT OF A 3-YEAR-OLD GIRL

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,302529,00.html

THIS IS A NEWS REPORT ABOUT A 37 YEAR OLD MAN WHO ADMITTED HE VIDEOTAPED A 3-YEAR-OLD GIRL AND ASSULTED HER. HE WAS CAUGHT IN LAS VEGAS, WHERE HE WAS DRIVING WITH NO LICENSE PLATES AND AN EXPIRED ID AND CLAIMED HE DIDN'T REMEMBER HIS SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. HE THEN GAVE UP AND SAID HE'S THE GUY THEIR LOOKING FOR. HE SAID HE WAS TIRED OF RUNNING. THE LITTLE GIRL IS NOW 7-YEARS-OLD AND SHE DOESN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING WHICH IS GOOD, BUT SHE HAS A CLUE BECAUSE OF PEOPLE TRYING TO INTERVIEW HER.

I FIND THIS ARTICLE INTERESTING BECAUSE IT'S SO DISTURBING TO HEAR THAT THESE OLD MEN TRY TO RAPE YOUNG GIRLS, ESPECIALLY AT THE AGE OF 3. THAT'S TELLING US THAT WE CAN'T TRUST ANYONE. HOW SICK IS THAT? CAN'T THEY GET WOMEN THEIR AGE? THE LITTLE GIRL BARELY KNOWS HOW TO SPEAK OR EVEN KNOW WHAT SHES DOING. THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT. THEIR STILL BABY GIRLS. IT'S SO SAD HOW THESE OLD MEN THINK THAT WAY AND THINK ITS OKAY TO DO SUCH A HORRIBLE THING.

Apple Could Face Lawsuit Over 'Toxic' iPhone Report

A consumer watchdog group may take legal action against Apple after the release of the Greenpeace report. The report states that the iPhone contains PVC and brominated flame retardants which after recycled can release toxic chemicals. PVC has also been known to potentially catch on fire. The organization wants Apple to reformulate the product and will be researching this for the next 60 days.

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=3736524&page=1

This article caught my attention because the fact that the iPhone is so popular it is an even worse and a much bigger hazard to the public. I think it is irresponsible for Apple to allow the iPhone to be sold since these products are supposed to undergo a series of tests and repairs before being put in the market.

Failed Drug Smuggling Attempt In Airport

Cocaine Bugs Seized In Airport

An Airport in Netherlands seized over $11,000 worth of nose candy stashed inside dead insects. Dozens of bugs that were seized were concealed in plastic to appear to be a collection of insects.

Out of all the articles I have read online this one probably got my attention the most. The title alone made me click to see what went on. It's not too often when I hear on the radio or see on TV of drug busts mainly because the only time i really see these kinds of stuff are in movies. The article is basically about a recent drug bust at an airport. But the thing that caught my attention was that they did it in a different way, by disguising and stuffing it into insects which is weird but at the same time smart. Although it IS kind of retarded because arent the people that buy this cocaine going to sniff it up there nose? Another failed attempt from drug dealers across the world, but I'm not saying this is a horrible idea at all because it IS better than the other method I hear about when drugs are smuggled through the airport.

Dalai Lama Draws Strong Reactions on Both Sides

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=15321257

This article was about the dalai lama receiving the congressional gold medal of honor from the U.S. for trying to fix the Tibetan relationship with China. China of course being very upset with this award because it was given to him. It is about him spreading the word of being non-violence. This recent visit that he made to the U.S. angered chinese officials. It's a pretty interesting article since world news is probably least viewed amongst all yall. Especially things that have to deal with peace/ beliefs. Check it out.

AIRLINE DRUGS

Link= http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071016/ap_on_re_us/jfk_drug_smuggling
This article is about a few workers of the airlines to help smuggle drugs from the Dominican Republic. The drugs arrived at JFK airport and the worker helped get the drugs to JFK airlines. 18 people were charged with helping smuggle these drugs. 10 of them were airline workers. Seven employees at Delta Air Lines, one at American Airlines, and two others who worked at JFK. Some were Lugguage handlers at the airport, and others were look outs. But as they arrived at JFK the Custom agents check them and found the drugs. The drug leader was a 31 year old named Henry Polanco who is a resident of Manhattan. The leader of the workers at the airlines were lead by Jorge Espinal, 38, a cargo supervisor for Delta. they were arrested and held in captivity.

This article was interesting to me because its about corrupt workers at the airlines. And it has to do with smuggling drugs. I think is interesting to find out what people would to just for money. It opens my eyes to how bad people are sometimes. I would think that airlines workers would be trustworthy but apparently some aren't. I think that News about illegal things just grabs my attention. It's interesting to read about illegal things especially when theres a conspiracy with inside members. I thing the workers are stupid to risk their job for a quick dollar. Its not worth losing your job, their reputation and going to jail.

Study looks at gays and genetics

Link: http://www.thestate.com/nation/story/201775.html

This article was about Julio and Mauricio Cabrera who are gay brothers who are convinced their sexual orientation rooted as their Mexican ancestry. They are among 1,000 pairs of gay brothers taking part of the largest study to date seeking genes that may influence whether people are gay. They hope that findings will help silence critics who say homosexuality is an immortal choice. One widely cited study in the 1990s found that if one member of a pair of identical twins was gay, the other had a 52 percent chance of being gay. In contrast, the result for pairs of non-twin brothers, was 9 percent. The Cabrera brothers grew up in Mexico in a culture where “being gay was an embarrassment,” especially for their father. They had cousins who were gay, but Mauricio said he still felt he had to hide his sexual orientation and he struggled with his “double life.” Julio said having an older brother who was gay made it easier for him to accept his sexuality. Many gays fear that if gay genes are identified, it could result in discrimination, prenatal testing and even abortions to eliminate homosexuals, however if they confirm that sexual orientation is an immutable characteristic, they are much more likely to get the courts to rule against discrimination. If the study finds markers that appear in gay brothers but not their straight brothers or parents, that would suggest a link to sexual orientation. The study is designed to find genetic markers, not to explain any genetic role in behavior.

I found this article interesting because sexual identity is an issue we come across quite frequently. Is one of those topics that involve alot of controversy. I found this article interesting because the 2 brothers come from a Mexican Background and in that culture being gay is not the way you want to be portrayed. I am not saying that that there is nothing wrong with choosing your sexuality but in the Mexican culture that is how I was raised and taught. I thought it was interesting how if your identical twin brother is gay the other would have a 52% chance which was quite fascinating, I never knew that. I thought that this study and approach should help them figure out if gay genes are able to be identified.

Sean "Diddy" Combs Fights (again)

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=3736051&page=1 abc news
Police investigate Diddy in club brawl last saturday October 13th. A man named Steven Acevedo states that Diddy initiated the fight once he heard that Steven dated his latest girlfriend. While punching the man Diddy allegedly started yelling, 'I'll kill you, punk!" Diddy's attorney has also stated that if Diddy is convicted this will be his third lawsuit in less than two weeks. He has three lawsuits pending against him in which they have all been initiated over a woman.
This article is interesting because although Diddy is a very rich and successful man he seems to have a harsh attitude towards others. Diddy doesn't even come off very friendly to me and I have never met him. I think that because he is so rich he thinks that he can do anything he wants, although he does/should have the same rights as everyone else. Also, it's interesting because I want to kow if he will get off because he is so rich. So I want to see if he wll get the same rights as all of us.

Pet Article Written in SFGate

"Your Whole Pet"
By Christie Keith SFGate

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2007/10/16/petscol.DTL

This article is written about how some abusers take the anger out on their pets. Why, maybe because they are angry with their partners, and most people consisder their pets to part of the family, so by using domestic violence on the them would be hurting the other person as well. Their are 71 percent of pet owners in a shelter for domestic violence that someone they knew had threatened to harm or kill their pets. In the state of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed, SB353, a bill that was authorized by State Sen. Sheila Kuehl, that would allow judges to name pets in restraining orders. "This legislation will prevent abusers from harming or threatening to harm animals in order to exert power and control over their human victims," Kuehl said.
Christie Keith states that, " services for the pets of families where abuse is taking place won't just protect the pets; such assistance will help get victims out of dangerous living environments by eliminating one of the weapons abusers often use to keep their victims from leaving. "
In Keiths' own expirence, she had, had a women come to her door asking if she could take her cat, because her boyfriend had just thrown i out the window and if she brought it back home she was scared he would do the same, and he had always threatened that if she broke up with him the cat would get hurt.
Keith says, that their needs to be an increase in awarness among social service workers, veterinarians, and educaters between violence and abuse agianst animals and humna family members.
I chose this article because when I read the title I wanted to know more, to find out that people are hurting animals for no reason really makes me mad, because the animals really didn't do anything. I care for animals alot and am one of those people that sometimes put animals or my pets first. I am glad to see that a Bill was passed to try and put a stop to this abuse.

Mexican experts say flesh was human

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071016/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/mexico_cannibalism

There was an aspiring horror novelist that was arrested on accounts of homicidal murders. When police arrived at his apartment they found body parts all over his home. They found a whole leg in the refrigerator, some flesh in a pan, and a lot of human limbs all over his apartment. The body of his girlfriend was also found in the closet with missing parts of her body as well. Forensics have confirmed that the flesh that was found in the apartment belonged to a human. In addition, when police spoke with the novelist's ex-girlfriend she had told them that he was quite the charmer, but as the relationship progressed he became more psychotic in terms of being controlling. Police also suspect that the novelist had also killed two other women that were found dead the same way his girlfriend was found in the closet.

At first when I glanced at the title I didn't think it was as literal as it read.I thought it was some kind of analogy or some metaphor to some boring story reporters wanted readers to catch off guard. Well that title still definitely caught my attention. I definitely found this article interesting because it didn't seem to me that these kind of things actually happen in real life. I've always seen horror movies that caught my attention and watched t.v series like CSI that contained such gory details , but they were always fake and never real. After reading this article it definitely surprised me. The article was also interesting because it contained a lot of descriptive details. It provided a good amount of information on the novelist's background and what was found in his apartment.

Brits resort to pulling own teeth

This piece of news is about a reaserch on english people that 6% of those questioned in the survey of 5,000 patients admitted that they have performed their own dental treatment by using a plier and some glue. They claimed that they could not find a dentist or could not afford the expensive dental fees and this has raised the public's concern.

I found this piece of news really interesting because i would never imagine someone pulling their own teeths (excluding little kids who wanted their wibbly giggly teeth to fall out as soon as they could so they can get money from the tooth fairy). I was very shocked after reading the news that one even pulled 14 teeths out herself/himself using only 2 tools : a plier and glue.

News...

Jayantibhai Patel a 57 year old attacked his 81 year old father in Foster City with a hammer. Jayantibhai on bail for 500 grand attacked his father because he wanted to go back to India. His father disagreed and so, Jayantibhai decided to hit his father in the head. Jayantibhai thought in order for his father to be placed in a nursing home, he would have to be hospitalized. Jayantibhai is now charged for murder and faces a 10 year sentence in a state prison.
This news article was very interesting and sort of suprising to me. I have lived in Foster City for quite a while and find it disturbing to find some psychotic people in this boring clean town. Its crazy what this fool did and I can't believe he thought that you would have to disable someone to send them to a nursing home.

Fears over safety at Heathrow after jets collide on runway

this article is about two passenger aircraft collided at Heathrow airport last night as they taxied on a runway in preparation for take-off. nobody was hurt but people had questions about why did it happened again because three months earlier two ba planes were in a similiar collision. this airport is one of the world's busiest airport. it got my attention because i been to that airport several times and it makes me wonder that i could have easily been in those airplanes. most of the news that i found was mostly political except this one.

The Onion: Kids plus Guns plus Shooting EQUALS Preparation for the Real World!!!

The link:

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/report_school_shootings_help

This article talks about how kids are prepared for the real world if they have experienced school shootings. College kids do better under stressful situations and according to Margret Spellings, "school shootings supply seniors with the practical knowledge they'll need to hit the ground running after graduation." It helps with teamwork and for people who join the military. This is something that can't be taught through school without it really happening.

I really enjoyed this article because the title itself caught my attention. The online "news" through The Onion always makes me laugh. The article talks about how people can benefit from school shootings instead of all the negative stuff about it. I'm not trying to imply that every school across the country have a day where someone somes in and starts shooting, but if it happens, it happens. We can't control what goes on in the head of a frekin' crazy ass teenager, and if you live throught it, your better off than most for getting shot at (according to the article).

SF GATE ARTICLE

I was just reading on www.sfgate.com and this one article caught my eye.....

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/10/15/MNIGSQ8T6.DTL&tsp=1

Someone had witnessed a what looked like a 30 year old man crawl beneath the track of the popular commute system in San Francisco known as MUNI commit suicide. At about 10:45AM this had been witnessed and the police had investigated shortly after to search for any clues of the suicide. This had caught my eye because to me it didnt make any sense for someone to kill themselves to what looked like for no reason. On the other hand under any situation is it ok to kill yourself. Life is never bad enough where your life should be taken away from this world. Police are investigating as I speak on this blog. Hopefully some answers will arise. For Now we just wait.

fast food

I worked at KFC for over 2 years. It was horrible. My co-workers were all really cool, but the manager sucked. I started there when I was 14 years old and he hired younger people because he didn't have to pay them more and could control them easier than a 20 year old. When I read the article I automatically thought about KFC because it is so true how they hire people who don't really know fair wages. I mean, I was being paid minimum wage but when I look back the amount of money I started with and ended with didn't have much of a difference.
Fast food to me is something I'll eat when I don't have time to cook or just need to grab something before work. Some fast food places have pretty good food, but its not something I could say I look forward to eating.

?my favorite meal

I have always been a huge fun of chocolate and I would live to state: “This is my favorite food of all”. I will try to be a little more creative and search through my memory for a real meal that is so unbelievable that I cannot forget it. There is one salad that my mum makes the best on the world and no matter how hard I try to find all the ingredients here in United States it just will not taste right. There is a funny story behind the recipe for my “Chinese Salad”. My grandma worked in a Chinese restaurant and gave my mum the recipe for the salad. I thought this is one of the Chinese specialties: a salad with Feta cheese and pineapple. Apparently, later I’ve realized that this is in fact a Greek salad, but I keep calling it “Chinese” anyways ;-)

The ingredients mixed together turn into a very interesting combination. The salad is based on Roman cabbage, pineapple, feta cheese, all kinds of fresh peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sweetcorn. Some people are concern about mixing a salty Feta with sweet pineapple, but I assure you, that tastes great!!!! Try it yourself.

I have a hard time making it myself because it just does not taste right. I do not know if this is the fact that I cannot find the right quality of ingredients, or I just luck the skill?;-)

Fast Food...

I have never worked at a fast food restaurant before, so I am not too sure how I feel about the job itself.  The fact that they hire inexperienced people kind of scares me.  What if they prepare food incorrectly?  I remember I got really sick after eating McDonald's chicken tenders when I was younger.  The inexperienced will eventually learn along the way of their job, but learning with food may be the wrong way to go.  I also don't like the fact that they hire non-English speakers.  It's sometimes very hard to understand what they say, and it might get frustrating when they don't understand what you say.  This job in general seems to be very useless in a way since it doesn't expand other experiences needed for other jobs that many people want to be.  I'm sure that learning how to cook hamburgers has nothing to do with being a psychologist, or even being a musician.

I prefer not to choose fast food because it's unhealthy.  I would only limit it to once a month if I become desperately hungry (or just because of feminine issues, which I will NOT go into detail.)  I would prefer something made from home since I know my family members wash their hands before handling the food, and that they cook it all the way through.

chocolate!!!!

"Chemically speaking, chocolate realy is the world's perfect food."-Michael Levine. What a someone!!!!! The one who created chocolate should receive a Nobel in every possible category!!!! I love, love, love, love everything that has to do with chocolate. The rich, creamy, sweet flavor of melting perfection is just what I need to make my day. This is a chemical perfection because it increases the level of serotonin and that makes you happy. The pleasure of eating chocolate is compared to pleasure of kissing- I have to agree on this one;-) I understand that there are some bad sides of eating this little “guilty pleasure”, but I am not going to search that territory. I will just enjoy another bite….(sorry for posting it now, but I had some trouble with my computer before and I felt behind with posts-I will be puttingone the blog some late stuff so excuse my "out of blue posts")

Starting Point.

Hmm.. so it says "Future All American".
I some-what disagree with Sclosser's essay because I believe that you have to start off working at a simple company like Mcdonald's before you apply for huge successfull businesses or careers like being a nurse at Seaton Medical Center, being a pharmacy technician at Longs Drugs, and so forth. You can not just walk into a hospital and ask if you can apply for a position without having any experiences and major education. You have to go through school, and education isn't as cheap as it use to be. Most people can't afford to pay like 15,000 a year for college students. I understand that there are helpful agencies who can give you a grant or loan you some money, but that's if and only you get approved. What if you don't get approved? Then that's when you start trying to find a job at the mall, or at a fast-food place or whatever. Life isn't fair, so you have to step up to the plate and make use of what you have. So in order for teenagers to help out, they apply at simple companies like Mcdonalds. It's better to make money than have nothing at all. Plus, there comes a time where you can't always ask your parents for money to buy you clothes, pay for your gas, your lunch, vacation, and all those extra things. Working at these simple companies puts cash in your pocket so you can use it for emergencies or simply just buying what you want. Also, it's up to you if you really love your job at Mcdonalds and you decide that's the right choice for you to live your life. I believe otherwise, but if you want to expand your knowledge and make more money, you have to fight through school and having a simple job like Mcdonald's by your side will and can help you through it. Working at Mcdonalds or somewhere cheap is a temporary help. It doesn't help you expand your knowledge because it only teaches the company's "bible" like how to make a burger, how to heat up fries, how to refill sodas, and how to greet and say goodbye to customers. But it's a start point... so keep struggling to learn more things so you can reach your goal in order to become very successfull in the future.

fast food...!

i think that working in a fast food place isn't THAT bad! i mean, it gives you work experience and if you need the money...it seems like a good plan. if its your first job, just to get you started in the working world type thing, then i think that it is actually a good thing. and if a lot of teenagers work there too, then it is teen-friendly and you can make friends fast!

about actually eating fast food....i think it is GROSS!!! and barley EVER eat it. NASSTTTTYYYYY.

HOW I FEEL ABOUT WORKING AT

MC DONALDS IS A GREAT PLACE TO EAT ESPECIALLY FOR TEENS, BUT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT WORKING THERE. AFTER READING ABOUT IT, IT LOOKS LIKE A PLACE WHERE YOUR JOB IS SIMPLE. THERE'S NOT MUCH TO LEARN, MAYBE JUST OPERAYING AND PRESSING BUTTONS, GREETING CUSTOMERS, BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT. I FEEL THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE MORE OPPORTUNITIES IN EXPANDING MORE KNOWLEDGE ESPECIALLY FOR TEENS. A JOB IS SOMETHING WHERE YOU CAN GROW AND LEARN MORE AND MORE AS YOU WORK THERE, BUT MCDONALDS JUST ENDS THERE; PRESSING BUTTONS AND SUCH. WORKING AT MCDONALDS IS A GOOD JOB FOR PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED THE MONEY, BUT IF TEENS JUST WORK THERE AND STAY THERE AS THEY GROW, THEY DON'T HAVE AN EDUCATION. PLUS LOW PAY IS NOT WORTH IT, EVEN THOUGH YOU'VE WORKED THERE FOR SO LONG. THAT'S HOW I FEEL ABOUT WORKING AT MCDONALDS. IT'S NOT NEGATIVE TO WORK THERE FOR A SHORT WHILE, BUT NOT FOREVER, ESPECIALLY TEENAGERS. THERE'S OTHER OPPORTUNITIES OUT THERE!!!!

Fridays

The most boring job that I have/ever had was T.G.I Fridays. Being a hostess just standing by the door until 2 in the morning wasn't enjoyable. By working at a restaurant I would think that it would be better than something like McDonalds or Burger King. After hearing all the bad things about working at those fast food restaurants I definitely would never want to test that job out. Realizing how boring it is and the pay I would consider working at Fridays a lot better and makes me happy.

throughput

i never had a job at fast food but couple of my friends had jobs at fast foods. i think it is a job like any other job but in this field there is more teenagers. it is a good thing that teens start taking responsibility at a earlier age, but after reading this essay it made me feel sad, because these companies are using teens and they are not getting paid enough. all these companies care about how much money they make not how the teens feel about these jobs. there is a good side to this that is that teens learn basic skills and will have confidence to talk to any kinds of people.

Fast Food Nation

I choose not to eat fast food for the sole reason that it is not healthy for me. Being the devils advocate, if I was in charge of McDonald's, I would do the same thing with the teenage workers. Teenagers need jobs, and McDonald's gives them jobs. It's a win win situation. Yes, working at Mcdonalds is a crappy job, but who had a job at 16 that was their dream job? I had a crappy job at age 16 and i was exploited just like the rest of the teenage workforce. It's just a part of life and the experience of growing up.

Fast food

After reading this article by Schlosser I would hate it to work at a fast food place like McDonalds. I worked at sizzlers before but it is not the same and not as bad as McDonalds. I feel that McDonalds is taking advantage of their workers because they are the cheapest labor they could get. I feel these workers are overworked and underpaid. They are the only people willing to take these crappy jobs. I rarely ever eat at fast food places. I don't like to eat at these places because thier food tastes so fake to me and it is not good for you. I rather go somewhere else where the food is fresh and taste a lot better.

Journal Response

The most boring job I have ever had was being a bagger at Safeway because everything I did was really annoying such as putting up with bitchy customers, dirty garbage, dirty bathroom cleanups and annoying co-workers as well. Customers were extremely rude to me and still are to this day but they must respect me now a days to receive service from moi. I was unappreciated because all I did were minor chores that supposedly didnt deserve any recognition which is bullshit because I worked hard for what I did. Some Managers were nice to me and some werent. I recently have been more respected since i have been promoted and since I have become a better worker than I was in the past. Managers that I work with should relax more about everything and trust the ones they know wont screw them over by slacking off and work and just keep an eye out for the ones that are slacking off and screwing around. All in all though working were I work now isnt so bad. I am a checker at Safeway and I have been working there for over 2 years. I have been more respected and appreciated by others which was all I wanted in the first place.

Fast Food!

I think this essay about throughput interwoven with the teenage workforce was quite appealing. I felt pity through the way the author conveys poor Liza and her supposed endeavor to become like an adult. This is where I shift my stance just ever so slightly, because if she was doing this to become like her adult counterparts and gain the work experience there should be absolutely no sympathy or pity for this girl. This may sound harsh but it is in reality not a dreamworld in which she made this conscious decision to do this. I do not feel bad about this particular subject of Liza because she was conscious. This can be tranferred to a greater extent as well. For example, many teenagers have the same excuse, that is right the same excuse. I'm not saying the majority of teens behave this way, I'm not saying a select few act this way. I am saying that a good enough amount teens are aware of this yet they still go. They may have it in their minds that they are exploiting the fast food companies because they feel like they are achieving essential skills and so much more while in fact they are being exploited for economic gain. In this sense, both are using each other and since this is the case I will say that "most" teens are ignorant so they deserve to be exploited.

However, I can take a strong stance saying that the handicapped and immigrants are exploited. This is different from teenagers because unlike teenagers these handicapped and immigrants are living on thier own, supporting a family, and paying for other essentials to survival. Whereas, teenagers commonly need extra pocket money for their own self-indulgence and have no priorties for survival compared with the handicapped and immigrants.

It's obvious that fast food companies exploit their workers, meaning that the fast food corporations take the greatest possible advantage, mostly economically. The key word being exploit, the workers exploit the company by having thier own notions of gaining a so-called experience and the company exploits them. The logic behind this is cunning and sly and no one ends up winning because in the end everyone gets exploited.

Throughput

After reading Schlosser's article it reminded me how disgusting fast food is and how screwed up the fast food corporation is to our youth. These major fast food chains are destroying our youths pride in work and ego. The fast food chains are obsessed with money and need to understand how to appreciate all the hard work our teenagers place at work. I have pity on these young workers and believe they should recieve more benefits and more slack. The fast food chains to me are revolting and kill my taste buds. I hardly eat these greasy unhealthy types of food and only accept most of the time real cooked food.

Throughputtttt

This was a very good story to read about. It really made me think about the food industry in different ways that I haven't really before. I mean i knew the fast food industry exploits workers, but i never really knew the fast food industries true motives. True motives meaning that no one really knows what their goals are but if one thinks about it long enough you can easily tell that something is going on. I think they put up the hiring sign just to get people to work for them. I mean its a good thing that they are created more jobs for people, but it's really for the fast food industries own benefits, they do not really care about their workers that much. If they did they wouldn't always have to be the lowest paying job out there that would be considered minimum wage. The industry likes people such as teens because they do not have experience in working yet, which makes them more easier to control. I also heard they put very long working hours and pretty much do not care what so ever about if the people who apply have work experience or not. Fast food industries will always be there and try to get us to eat at their "restaurants." It isn't bad to go once in a while, just beware that, "You are what you eat."

Throughput

After reading Schlosser's article it made me realize the motives behind the huge " NOW HIRING" signs that i was drawn to. I didn't exactly work at a fast food restaurant, but i did work at a food service franchise called COLDSTONE'S Creamery. Most of my coworkers including me were around the same age as me. My manager even told us she preferred hiring no experienced workers so that she could sculpt them to her priorities. Needless to say Coldstone's Creamery was my first job. i had coworkers that were homemakers and coworkers that spoke very little English. the ones that spoke very little English rarely worked in the front with us, but they did have what Schlosser referred to as the franchises' version of English. The non speaking English coworkers only spoke the Coldstone's English. I definitely felt offended in being in the category of a low waged worker. although big franchises hunt for us low wage workers, I am still glad that i had an opportunity to work for them as my first job. It provided me with the experience necessary to get other jobs such as the job i have now as a receptionist.

Fast Food Industry, Employees and Explotation

The fast food industry exploits workers especially teens. They often take advantage of their workers by making them work extra shifts for the same minimun wage. They do not get any benefits and that job does not really help them advance. Like Schlosser said in his essay it just teaches the basic skills-such as getting to work on time. Sometimes those workers do not have any other options to turn to. They might have little or no education and need to make some money. For example, I know many people that work at Fast Food Restaurants and they struggle so much. I know this lady that works at Mcdonalds and needs this job because she's an immigrant that just came here to USA and speaks hardly no english. She needs this job to help her husband support her kids. She really doesnt have any other option, and this puts alot of pressure on people like her, that desperately need jobs to mainatina a stable life. I also have my friend that works at Mcdonalds and she needs this job to pay for college. Sometimes thye make her state later than the hours she is supposed to work and I think that it is not right. The Indusrty should respect employees by making them work only the hours they are supposed to work and not take advantage of them. The food industry always tries to find what is best for their own interest. They try to find the cheapest labor there is. I agree with Schlosser when he says that, "Teenagers have been the perfect candidates for these jobs, not only because they are less expensive to hire than adults, but also because their youthful inexperience makes them easier to control. Take my friend for example she works for min wage and she is under their control because she actually stays out and does extra work to benefit their company. The food
industryy needs to change their system because cheap labor doesnt always mean best production. Their employees have a necessity to have that job (Do you think people actually want to work there?...I don't think so in my point of view). But even though I know that the Fast food Industrys exploit workers, sometimes I cant help but pull in through the drive thru and order something because Im always ina rush and there is no time to cook. I do not go that often, because I watch out for what I eat, but sometimes when i'm in a hurry it's something that I do, but I try not to go often only when I really need to.

Fast Food

I really don't think the fast food industry is doing what is best for their employees. They pay minimum wage and they have basically no where they can go with the job. They are just trying to use the cheapest labor they can find so that they can make millions of dollars. This does not help employees at all, if they have no chance to move up in a company then why would they work harder. Maybe if they had insentive to work hard then it could be a great job. Something needs to be done about how the fast food industry operates.

Put-Through....Busboy to Waiter!

The most boring job I have ever had was being a busboy at a restaurant. I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I first started this job, but I learned to like the job and eventually I started to make some "real money" once I became a waiter. The best way I can describe a busboy is being someone's little bitch. I cleaned the tables, got the drinks, and restocked everything. I hated it. I remember my boss use to come over to the table I was cleaning to let me know the orders of drinks for another table while not giving me a helping hand. It is not even about helping me out, but to just offer the help. I didn't trust him. After about a week or so, I told myself that I didn't want to do this job anymore. I talked to my boss and he gave me a reality check. He said something in the lines of "You learn fast, but still not there. You need to work hard for what you want." It enlightened me. I was never late, worked harder, and didn't take any shit from anyone at work. A month pass and sure enough, I got what I wanted. I was a waiter. I became the guy that told people what to do, and how to do it, but I remember where I came from. Only a month ago, I was doing that same job a different busboy was doing, so what do I do. I always help the busboy even if they didn't help. I never asked for anything that I couldn't take care of from these guys. For most of the busboys that helped me during my shift, I would tip them out an extra couple of dollars then what other people would give them. Eventually these guys that worked for me, we became cool with each other and everyone that I worked with had a very fun and enjoyable environment at the restaurant. I ended up working here for the next three years until I graduated High School and quit on good terms with my boss.

Throughput ~~~Taco Bell~~~
This essay by shlosser was very right about the fast food industry. For my first job I worked at Taco Bell, and it was the worst job I have ever had. I was new to the Town of Los Banos and hoped to makes some friends. Everyone Spoke in Spanish and weren't very friendly, so I felt left out. I feel as if this job was just a rite of passage explained by schlosser in the essay. It was just a start and I did learn a lot about hospitality while I worked there. Reading this essay brings back bad memories, I hated that job. Even though The food and preparation was sometimes disturbing I still eat Taco Bell sporadically. I try not to eat fast food but sometimes I have no time to cook and it is fast and cheap.

Just About Enough.

"Never eat more than you can lift." -Miss Piggy

I believe in this quote because there are so many people especially little kids who are obese. They can't lift themselves up because all the fat is holding them down. Some parent's think it's okay to keep feeding their child because being fat is cute. Well, they're absolutely wrong! It's cute when babies are a little on the chubby side, but once they start eating un-healthy then that's a different story. When they get older, do you think it's good for their body and bones? I believe that eating just about enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is fine. One bowl of cereal, Mcdonalds, and chicken over rice for lunch. That doesn't sound too bad. You can eat fast food sometimes just control yourself. How much is 'just about enough'? I know I start craving for certain foods like chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, pretzels wetzels, clam chowder soup, in and out burger, and so forth (am I making you hungry?). When you know you're stomach looks like a balloon and it's feeling full, that's when your brain should realize to stop the hand from putting more food in your mouth. If you can't realize that then there's something wrong with your brain. Yes, there are times where you just can't get enough, so talk to your doctor about it! As for now, listen to Miss Piggy. If you can't carry yourself because of your bad eating habits, then change your life to better yourself.

My meal

Last week I went to resturant called, El Zocolos which is Salvadorian food and is located in South San Francisco. This wasn't a new restaurant, I have been going there for quite a while with my family. When ever I go there I always order papusas, which is cheese in a bread almost like a tortilla with spanish rice and beans. Along with platanos which is fried bananas. It is so good, I am never disappointed with this restaurant. I recommend trying this restaurant sometime because you can never really go wrong with whatever you order.

food, glorious food quote

" Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper." -Adelle Davis

I agree with this quote wriiten by Adelle Davis, because when it states, "Eat breakfast liek a king," it is stating that breakfast is the most important meal of the day in which it also gives you energy as well, so there for it should be the biggest. Lunch is the sencond most important meal, but not as much food but helps you carry on through the rest of your day. Dinner is supposed to be the smallest because you don't have as long to burn the calories off as you would have in the morning. This eating habit is also a normal and healthy way to eat your meal portions.

merchants of cool

After the disscusions in class and watching the Merchants of Cool, I do believe that corporate intrests have taken over the teen culture, by going out taking pictures of people and asking those people what they think is cool. Cool is always changing so I don't think that teens have control over what is cool and whats not. They will like something and wear it but then the next week it could be so out. For example, a type of clothing.

chicken korma with seek kababs and nans

my friends and i went to a restaurant in fremont called Chandini. it's indian and pakistani cuisine. i ordered the chicken korma with seek kababs and nans. if your not familiar with this then, basically it's chicken that's cooked like curry style with beef kababs and nan. nan is a kind of bread but it's not square it's round. well i ordered this because it' s really strong in taste and it's hella spicy. in our culture we mostly eat spicy foods and yes sometimes it will make u sweat, but the thing is if your not sweating then the food isn't spicy .

MEAL

Last week my friends and i decided to eat at a malyaysian cuisine restaurant called Banana Island. This wasn't my first time eating at this restaurant either so I decided to order what i usually got. i ordered the pineapple fried rice and the Indian pancake dish. The Indian pancake dish came out first and it was made fresh. The texture was like a crisp crepe , but thinner. The dish came with a curry sauce that was used to dip the pancake in. This dish never fails to satisfy my taste buds. Then came my pineapple fried rice dish. The pineapple fried rice came in a half sliced pineapple bowl. It tasted like regular fried rice but added with raisins, pineapples, and some curry sauce. I usually don't eat malaysian foods at home but the rich taste of malausian cooking always satisfies me. the food in terms of cost was more then what my meal would be if it were prepared at home. I chose to order those specific dishes because i always get these two orders when i go to Banana Island .

sweet sweet Denny's

So a few mornings ago with a couple of friends we decided to go eat breakfast at Denny's. Half awake while ordering i dreamed of the sweet freshly squeezed orange juice and the soft fluffy pancakes. Alongside with the pancakes is scramble eggs, thick slices of greasy bacon, and sausages. Once my breakfast came i immediately woke up, and right in front of me was the soft fluffy mountain of pancakes alongside with the scramble eggs, thick slices of greasy bacon, and sausages. I had the look of an 8 year old on Christmas morning as i began eating.

When Women are Depressed, They Either Eat or Go Shopping. Men Invade Another Country.

I agree with this quote. I can relate to it because when I'm sad, I have no energy to do anything and just mope around. I tend to eat a lot of chocolate & chips to cheer me up.
Women are portrayed as helpless and emotional when it comes to depression and do something meaningless such as stuffing their faces with junk food or shopping to ease away the pain. Men, on the other hand, can easily forget about their problems by watching TV, playing sports, or hanging out with their friends - they're not as sentimental as women.

"Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation" - Ben Franklin

I agree with this quote because the first part of the quote, to me, means not too eat so much as to be overwhelmed and cannot differentiate taste anymore. It's true because I have had experiences like that such as at Thanksgiving where the best food is made by the best cook in the family and you want to consume as much as possible because you know you wont have anything this good again till next year. I'm thinking the second part of the quote means not too drink too much where you are really drunk and just cant think anymore. Maybe drinking at a dinner party is good, tasting good wine or something, but not over-doing it.

"NEVER EAT MORE THAN YOU CAN LIFT"

I AGREE WITH THIS QUOTE BECAUSE EATING MORE THAT YOU CAN LIFT IS CONSIDERED GREEDY AN SELFISH. PLUS WE CAN'T EAT A WHOLE ANIMAL LIKE A COW IN ONE MEAL. IF YOU EAT MORE THAN YOU CAN LIFT, EVERYONE WILL BE KILLING MORE ANIMALS AND WE WOULD ALL BE ENORMOUS PEOPLE. IT WILL ALSO BE A WASTE EATING MORE THAN YOU NEED. FOOD IS THE BEST THING AND WE ALL HAVE TO ENJOY IT. IT'S JUST TOO GREEDY TO EAT SO MUCH. SHARING IS CARING. THERE'S NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT EAT.

My Sentual Experience With Wetzils Pretzils :)

Today as I was walking through the Hillsdale Mall, I smelled the sweet smell of Wetzels Pretzils. Once the aroma hit my nostrals, I just had to stop and buy a Wetzils Pretzil. Once I was there, I ordered a cinnamon pretzil and a lemonaide. They gave me my pretzil in this lovely paper bag that they give you your pretzils in and I couldnt wait to taste the cinnamoney dough in my mouth and the sweet lemonaide also. The whole experience was beautiful and very sentual. The end.

Yowza!!! ..Himalayan Food..

This past weekend, my friends and I wanted to try something new in San Francisco. We all decided on a place in the city called Taste of Himalayas. It is on Lombard St. near the Exploritorium. I didn't know what to expect at this place because all I have ever heard about the Himalayas are the mountains.

I was craving curry all week so I decided to order one of their curry dishes. From what I remembered, all I read was spinach and cheese. The curry came out in 15 minutes and during that time, I was drinking a cold crisp lager. When the curry was set in front of me, I can see the white block cheese and the shrivel spinach. The curry itself had an aroma of hot spicyness. It smelled great, but it looked as if someone in their kitchen puked on the dish to make this curry. The color itself didn't help because I am use to curry being brown, but this pigment curry was the color of my khaki creamed color. The cheese looked as if it was chunks and I didn't really want to even try it.
I finally maned up and grabbed the spoon and mixed it up. Didn't know what to really expect, so I used my toung and licked it. It was still hot and steamy, but I can already taste the spice. Believe it or not, as horrible as it looked, the curry was GOOD! I was shocked and suprised of the flavor it had. Unlike other curry I have tried, this was made from scratch. I can taste a couple of different spices that was put into the curry, but the one that was overpowering was the chili.
I also had naan that night to go with the curry. Naan is just fried dough that has spots like a dalmation. But for some reason, this naan didn't taste the same as others I have tried in the past. It was not as chewy and the texture was different, but still very good.
That is my first experience with Himalayan food. The restaurant has a really good lunch special that is advertisted outside the restaurant. It is a buffett that cost $7.50 and served from 11am-2pm. I believe this is the best way to experience this food. Until next time...

Food + Talking = Love.

"Good food ends with good talk."
I chose this quote because it reminds me of my friends and myself, all we do in our lives is go out and eat. Even though we live a boring life and are close to becoming fat, going out to eat always brings out great conversations. We talk about life, love, boys, sex, hair, nails, etc. and always have the best talks over food.

The Meal

Last week, what I had to eat was a Chickne Fetticini Alfredo from Olive Garden. Man was this plate Cracking!!!!!! Love Olive Garden, their bread sticks are to die for, delivered fresh and hot, with the fetticini sauce. Well the plate is pretty big, its tendered chicken is made real well, the spices on it are real good too. The pasta goes real well with the sauce, the taste is pretty creamy. And overall it's a delicious plate.!!!!

puccini & pinetti

last thursday night i went out to eat with my friends at a restaurant that another friend recommended to me. it was an italian restaurant in san francisco. i had fun because of the friends that i went with and because it was a really nice restaurant. the place was really packed with alot of loud people and since i had made a reservation we got seated right away. we stared with bruschetta as an appatizer, which is a bread that you can dip into tomatoes and mozarella cheese and i had a rasberry italian soda. since my teeth were sore because of my braces, the waiter recommended me angel hair that turned out to be delicious. this restaurant was a new experiance to me because i hadnt been to a restaurnat were you had to go dressed up. we were going to get dessert but once we saw the bill we decided to pass.
