I don't think teen have control of what is cool because the media steals ideas from the "cool kids" and promote it to the general population as "cool" or trendy. I think that some corporations have stolen specific teen cultures and used it to their advantage. It has exploited teens in the sense that twelve and thirteen year-old look like they are seventeen, they pay teens money to make a television show look "cool" and fun, and lastly they extremely exploit the parents because they are the ones paying for the merchandise that the teen population "needs".
