The average teen will never have control over what is "cool." it will always be that merchant of cool who is selling you their product and if you stand out too much from the normal, you aren't "cool" and the peer pressure will conform you.
I accept that the corporations have hijacked "cool" from teens and it will never be given back. Because the companies are making WAY too much money to change their ways. Until the teens change, which seems highly unlikely, then the corporations will stay the same
